Check Out Procedures
All halls will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2008. All students are asked to comply with the following official check out procedures:
1. All students must check out by 5 p.m. on May 17, 2008. Students who check out late will be charged $10 for each hour after 6 p.m. (or fraction thereof) or forfeit their $150 housing deposit.
2. You must check out in person at the front desk. Giving your keys to someone else to check you out will not be considered a proper check out. If you do not turn in a room key when you checkout, it will be considered an improper checkout and your deposit can be forfeited.
3. You can not check out of the hall until you are ready to vacate your room..
a. The room must be cleaned and all personal belongings must be removed.
b. A Resident Advisor must check the room for damages.
c. University property that is missing/damaged will be charged to the occupants of that room.
d. Cleaning fees will be charged if the room is not cleaned or trash, food, etc. is left over.
4. Check out should be conducted only during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. You must make prior arrangements with an Area Coordinator or Head Resident if you are planning to leave when the office is normally not open. Leaving when the office is closed will not be a sufficient excuse for failing to checking out properly.
5. You must sign a Housing CHECK OUT Form and a Preference Form as part of the check out process. On the form you will be asked to do one of the following with your deposit (according to your future housing plans):
1. TRANSFER your deposit to Summer I, Summer II, or Fall 2008 semester if you plan to continue staying in the halls.
2. REQUEST A REFUND of your deposit if you donot plan to continue staying in the halls for a future semester. Enrolled students who are under 20 years of age, or who have less than 30 semester hours are required to live on campus for one academic year, unless granted an exception by the University. (refer to Required Residence Policy)
Failure to comply with these procedures means that you have not officially checked out and that your deposit can be forfeited.
Limited guest space will be available to students in need of emergency housing during the May break. The cost is $6.00 per night, payable in one lump sum of $60 upon check-in into the hall. Guest housing reservations must be made in advance at Residence Life by May 14, 2008.
